Sketching by the Grand Canal, Venice

Sketching by the Grand Canal, Venice.
Ian Wright has been drawing and painting for some 40 years, involved in illustration and fine art. Whilst largely self-taught he has attended many Summer Schools and courses with the R.W.S. and others. His subject matter ranges from portraits and still life to the very popular watercolour townscapes shown here, and his observational style has been well served during trips to the Yemen, France, Istanbul, Venice, Cuba, Crete and India.

He exhibits with the Sutton Watercolourists Group, of which he is a founder member and won their Lorna Murray Award in 1997. He has had work in open exhibitions in the Mall Galleries and the Chelsea Art Society shows. In 2002 he won the Chelsea Art Society CAS Award and subsequently became a member. He was selected by Sutton Council to provide work for their art exchange with Germany.

Commercial galleries handling his work include the Wykeham Gallery, Stockbridge; the A Gallery, Merton and small galleries in both Surrey and Greater London. He is regularly commissioned to produce cartoons for private and commercial customers.

Whenever possible Ian joins the Urban Sketchers, London group on their sketchcrawl days around the city, and some of those works are included in this website.
